Health advice abounds in today’s modern world. Countless studies have been done to ascertain the effects of exercise, diet, and lifestyle on health. We continue to tune in and find out from them. However, for us, it appears obvious. Sitting like a native as a secret to health and happiness is based on this idea. Does the question become what did our ancestors need to stay healthy and happy? To a large extent, that’s exactly what we want to.

Our contemporary world has taken us far away from getting those needs fulfilled. Here is the way to contact our true needs and bring about health and happiness.

Ecstatic Dance

Our ancestors danced their asses off on a normal basis. No, we are not speaking about nodding their heads while driving to 7 Eleven to buy a Slurpee. We are referring to getting on your toes with a bunch of different people and moving your body to the rhythm for hours on end. We are talking about sweating, fun, and ecstasy. Dancing has numerous health benefits, both physical and emotional in addition to others. Dancing is not a pastime or a treat. It’s something our bodies and spirits NEED.

While we are at it, might as well throw in singing. The effects of singing on mental health are real. That’s exactly what is in our DNA throughout our ancestors. You do not need to become a part of a choir. Crank that music in your car and sing as loudly as you can.

We wonder whether our obsession with social media is a requirement for the community. Our ancestors were a part of a close community. They knew each other’s business and they had each other’s backs. They didn’t Netflix and chill every night while drinking a beer and eating food from a box. A feeling of belonging is an absolute requirement in mental health. Our ancestors needed that on lock. More and more our contemporary society is shifting away from that. We work alone, entertain ourselves alone, and even have sex independently. Do you see how we’ve gone off the rails? What we need is to contact the sorts of communities that our ancestors needed.

In our modern times, we have a lot of politicians, educators, pundits, and specialists. But much of this information is given through lectures, studies, articles, and also two minute sound bites on CNN. What we’ve lost is the craft of a mentor that takes a personal interest in us. Google makes for a good fact-checker but a bad mentor. If you would like to flourish and develop, find a mentor who cares for you. Someone who will take some opportunity to speak to you and allow you to understand.

The Hunt/Chase

Our ancestors needed it in their DNA to search. They did that to survive. They spent a whole lot of time chasing after things. Today we no longer have to hunt for food. However, is that driveway still in our DNA? I don’t see where it’d have gone after thousands of years. We need to search because it is in our DNA. We are not talking about stalking down a deer or an elk. We are referring to your dreams. Your purpose, and your enthusiasm. If you’re not searching for something, you’re the one being searched. Life is hunting you down. So get off the couch and turn off the TV because hunting for the remote doesn’t count.

Beautiful Projects

While the dudes were away hunting buffalo, the gals were collecting berries and pruning seeds and preparing amazing and flavorful meals. They were engaging in creative jobs that sustained their bodies and minds. Nowadays we could swing by Domino’s and get a pizza and a two-liter. That’ll help keep us alive. But what sustains us is participating in projects that require knowledge, skill, and artistic imagination. If we learn how to cook and bake wonderful delicious and healthy food, we will be fed on a deeper level.

Plant Medicine

Continuing in the same vein, we all know how to pop a few of Tylenol or toss down a couple of beers to soothe what ails us. What we don’t know is that the science and art of using plants and herbs to bring about physical and psychological wellness. The properties of herbs and plants are the most obvious manifestation of that. Our ancestors were no dummies. They utilized thousands of different substances to heal, energize, and enter mysterious states. Both psychoactive and non-psychoactive plants have sustained us for thousands of generations. So put the Pop-Tarts and Top-Ramen because you’re going to need some true nutrition to remain happy and healthy in the current society. Steering your diet in the plant-based direction should be painfully obvious if you would like optimum health.

Cold Water

Our ancestors bathed in cold water. That is not a savory thought. However, there is a good deal of proof that cold water showers are good for your health. If you’ve ever believed that exhilaration later, you understand what we are speaking about. We are not saying a change to only cold showers. But steer clear in that way and build your tolerance to cold water gradually. We typically change it too cold for the last 30 seconds. Over time, we have found that we can take it all of the ways down to just cold and feel very comfortable. Swim in the ocean or a waterfall in the mountains.

Spend Time in Nature

As we said before. The ground offers everything we need for life. It filters the sun’s rays so they do not scorch us. Air, plants, and soil. How we look at it, the earth is a large ball of recovery energy. But if we cover it up with solid and concrete, that healing energy gets blocked. As much as possible, we have to go to regions where that energy isn’t blocked. We will need to go trekking, swimming, running, and picnicking where dirt and trees exist. If we do, we can reconnect with what we have lost and begin to recover a life of health and joy.
